'80s/'90s Abstract Space Backgrounds

For those of us born in an era before the internet, you should vividly recall the packaging graphics for various '80s LEGO Space models:

The backgrounds always tickled my fancy! Therefore, I've used my Photoshop savvy to mimic those sort of backgrounds for use for any of you folks out there to place as matte paintings for your space-themed projects. The choice is yours: Print them out on a large format printer and place your creations in front, or use chroma key to insert these JPGs behind your photographs.

(this one here is just a web-only sample)

See the thumbmails for small samples, then choose your download format: High-resolution TIFF or JPG, all 300 dpi. Also, on the far right column you'll see an example package box to guage its resemblance!

Here's a picture of one of my new custom Gundam creations superimposed in front of one of those particular backgrounds:

Does this rock or what!?

"Baron von Brick" Amishman virtual minifig!

"This hand of mine glows with an Amish power. Its churning grip tells me to defeat you! HERE I GO. . . Erupting Buggy FINGER!!!"

Here's a vector illustration of my custom Amish cowboy figure--ready for action! Created oringally by me in Flash, touched-up in Illustrator and ultimately exported in Photoshop, this wickedly badass acton figure is superimposed in front of a photograph I took from the roof of my old Bushwick apartment. Of course, much gradient and saturation effects have been employed as well!

Dedication & Devotion

As some of you folks know already, the red Futuron astronaut from the mid-late 1980s Space sets is my all-time favorite minifig. As a young child, I wanted that one figure more than anything, but alas could not, as it was rare and came in more expensive sets (my family was poor). The most abundant astronauts were the blue and yellow ones, which came in most models. In the summer of 2010, I visited the talented Kristen Friested in Brooklyn, NY to get an original tattoo piece done on my right forearm. The way I see it, the red spaceman was the one toy I always wanted, and now with the magic of permanent inking, I have one forever! The tattoo base was drawn by me in Adobe Illustrator (in vector form) using an actual instruction booklet scan, then Kristen did her thing:

Update 10/9/11 - I visited Kristen again, and got a large Castle Forestman minifig on my upper right forarm near my elbow! This was another favorite figure of mine as a child.

A few days later, after the initial scabbing began:

Glowng M-Tron Painting

Created with arcrylic paints on poster board, this is one of my earliest paintings made in 2009, when I first began hand-painting as a form of media. Yes, it glows in the dark and luminates under a blacklight!
